![]() ![]() While watching this movie it became very obvious that schools don’t take sexual assault cases serious, often hoping if they act like it’s no big deal, the student will drop it over time. The tone of the movie then takes a turn for the darker side when Annie Clark is quoted saying, “Two of us were sexually assaulted before classes even started.” ![]() When we are introduced to the two main victims that are focused on throughout the film they speak on how excited they were to start college. “Schools are not the safe havens they once appeared to be college women are at higher risk for sexual assault than their non-college-bound peers.” The scene then changes to footage of move in day for colleges while we hear college presidents inspirational speaking to new college students. This opening scene shows a startling contrast between the hopeful teens dancing up and down, and the traumatizing future some have awaiting for them in college. This beginning scene is a first look into how students are supposed to feel about college, and how young and innocent they were before they got to the school of their dreams. These videos are full of laughter, jumping up and down, hugging and celebrations all around. When the documentary first begins, we are presented with videos of many ecstatic students being accepted into their dream college. Through the use of a compelling soundtrack, heartbreaking interviews and visually engaging pictures this movie creates an expose consisting of pathos, logo and ethos to convince the audience that sexual assault has been swept under the rug for too long on college campuses, and it is now time that something is done about this epidemic. This film sheds a new light on the concept of campus rape and sexual assault in a way that pushes past all the lies and cover ups to make the audience feel empathetic towards the victim and angry at the colleges for the negligent way these situations were handled. The documentary “The Hunting Ground”, written and directed by Kirby Dick and released in 2015, is an enlightening expose designed to reveal the shocking truth about on campus sexual assault crimes.
